School of Languages
The IPSI School of Languages was founded in 1987 with the main objective of enhancing students’ efforts in learning English, German, and French in order to:
> Enable students to achieve an even higher level of oral and written proficiency in these languages.
> Prepare students to obtain qualifications within the Common European Framework of Reference (Cambridge and/or Oxford for English, Goethe-Zertifikat for German, and DELF for French).
You can access the schedules of extracurricular activities on this same website, in the section Extracurricular / Activity Bulletin.
Organisational Framework
The IPSI School of Languages follows the six levels of the Common European Framework for the development of foreign language programmes:
- A1: elementary level
- A2: pre-intermediate level
- B1: intermediate level
- B2: upper-intermediate level
- C1: advanced level
- C2: proficiency level

Methodology and Faculty
The School of Languages believes that students are the protagonists in the classroom. Students learn by doing and thus develop the ability to communicate in the foreign language not only through the application of theory but also through experience.
The average number of students per group is 8. This way, teachers can closely monitor each student’s progress, making it both rapid and solid.
The foreign language faculty at IPSI consists of a mix of native and non-native teachers (at C1 level or higher, most with C2 already achieved or in the process of achieving it).
All have been selected for their good accent, intonation, and rhythm when speaking the language, as well as their willingness and motivation to teach our students.
English and the Cambridge After Schools Project
In 2019, we started a new project in collaboration with Cambridge University Press: the Cambridge After Schools Project.
The classes represent a perfect opportunity to complement what our students have learned at the School and go a bit further!
The emphasis is on enjoying the learning and practice of the English language in a positive environment.

Toddler / Snapper Cycle (I4, I5):
Two hours per week.
This cycle aims to introduce children to the English language through stories, songs and games by working with content from their immediate environment (classroom objects, parts of the body, the house, transport, weather, etc.).

Kid Cycle (1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Primary):
Kid 1: two hours / Kid 2, 3, 4: two and a half hours per week.
This cycle aims for recognition and subsequent active deepening of the vocabulary from the student’s environment, the global comprehension of oral and written texts, and an introduction to oral and written production.

Junior Cycle (5th, 6th Primary and 1st, 2nd ESO):
Two and a half hours per week in 5th and 6th / Three hours per week in 1st and 2nd ESO.
This cycle aims for the comprehension, both global and detailed, of oral documents and written texts appropriate for the student’s age, and oral and written production in everyday communicative situations, as well as an introduction to the autonomous use of appropriate resource sources.
Senior Cycle (students of 3rd and 4th ESO and BTX):
Three hours per week.
This cycle aims to master different aspects of the English language in order to understand and express oneself, orally and in writing, in all possible situations, with an emphasis on language for specific purposes. At the end of ESO, the student can opt to take the First Certificate B2 in English exam from Cambridge OR the Oxford Test of English B2. At the end of BTX, the student can opt to take the Advanced C1 in English exam from Cambridge OR the Oxford Test of English C1.
